Four Wimbledon quarterfinalists to play at Stanford

Four of the eight women's quarterfinalists at Wimbledon are entered in next week's Bank of the West Classic at Stanford.
Advancing Monday at the All England Club were No. 6 seed Serena Williams of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., No. 8 Angelique Kerber and No. 15 Sabine Lisicki of Germany, and unseeded Tamira Paszek of Austria.
Lisicki led the way, upsetting top-ranked Maria Sharapova 6-4, 6-3. Lisicki, a Bank of the West semfinalist last year, had been 0-3 against Sharapova, the runner-up to Victoria Azarenka at Stanford in 2010. Sharapova will lose the No. 1 ranking on Monday to either Azarenka or Agnieszka Radwanska.
Lisicki is scheduled to play Kerber today, guaranteeing that the Bank of the West Classic will have at least one Wimbledon semifinalist. Kerber routed Kim Clijsters, a four-time Bank of the West champion playing her last Wimbledon, 6-1, 6-1. Clisters, 29, will retire after the U.S. Open.
In the bottom half of the draw, four-time Wimbledon champion Williams will face defending champion and No. 4 seed Petra Kvitova, and Paszek will meet second-seeded Azarenka.
Williams, who will defend her Bank of the West title, topped unseeded Yaroslava Shvedova 6-1, 2-6, 7-5. Shvedova, a Moscow native who plays for Kazakhstan, was coming off the first Golden Set, in which she won all 24 points, in women's Open Era history.
Paszek dispatched 21st-seeded Roberta Vinci of Italy 6-2, 6-2.
In the men's draw, 10th-seeded Mardy Fish of the Sacramento Capitals in World TeamTennis led fifth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 1-1 (40-40) when rain suspended play until today. Fish, who's 0-2 against Tsonga, is playing in his first tournament since undergoing a procedure six weeks ago for heart palpitations.
Rain postponed many other matches until today.
Men's Challenger in Winnetka, Ill. -- Seventh-seeded Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania defeated Taiwan's Jimmy Wang, who trains in the Sacramento area, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the $50,000 Nielsen Pro Tennis Championships.
In a rematch of the Sacramento Futures final last month, eighth-seeded Jeff Dadamo of Tampa, Fla., beat fourth-seeded Devin Britton of Brandon, Miss., 6-3, 7-6 (1) in the last round of qualifying.
Britton saved two match points, the first on a self-described "lucky" shot, to beat Dadamo 2-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2 in Sacramento.
