Altamirano stays perfect; Virginia advances to final

   Collin Altamirano of Sacramento improved to 3-0 in singles in the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championships as top-seeded Virginia reached the final against Atlantic Coast Conference rival North Carolina.
   Virginia, the defending NCAA champion, dominated fifth-seeded Texas Christian 4-1 today in Charlottesville, Va. Altamirano, a sophomore, defeated No. 38 Guillermo Nunez 6-1, 6-4 on Court 3 and won at No. 3 doubles with J.C. Aragone.
   North Carolina eliminated seventh-seeded UCLA, featuring two Northern Californians, 4-2. No. 34 Mackenzie McDonald, a junior from Piedmont in the San Francisco Bay Area, topped Brayden Schnur 6-3, 7-6 on Court 1, but sophomore Logan Staggs of Tracy lost to No. 62 Robert Kelly 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Court 5 in the clinching match.
   The 12th-ranked team of McDonald and Martin Redlicki defeated No. 3 Brett Clark and Kelly 6-3 on Court 1 to help the Bruins win the doubles point.
   Top-ranked Virginia (8-0) seeks its sixth ITA Indoors title, while No. 7 North Carolina (8-0) appears in the final for the first time.
