For the second straight match, the junior from Statesville, N.C., won in three sets to give the 15th-ranked Stanford women a 4-3 victory in the NCAA Championships.
This triumph was even sweeter, as it came against rival and top-ranked Florida. The schools have combined to win four of the last six NCAA titles.
Davidson, ranked No. 46, defeated No. 11 Belinda Woolcock 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3 on Court 2 on Thursday in Tulsa, Okla.
Despite their top ranking, the Gators (23-3) are seeded second behind Cal in the NCAAs. The Bears (22-1) advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals with a 4-0 victory over No. 16 Texas Tech in Tulsa.
Four of the top seven women's teams in the country lost Thursday. In addition to Stanford toppling Florida, No. 14 Virginia upended No. 3 North Carolina 4-2, No. 12 Oklahoma State whipped No. 5 Georgia 4-0, and No. 10 Michigan edged No. 7 Miami 4-3.
Stanford (17-5) will face Michigan (23-6), which reached the quarterfinals for the first time, on Saturday at 10 a.m. PDT. Cal will play No. 8 Pepperdine (24-2), which routed Texas 4-0, at 2 p.m. The Bears crushed the Waves 7-0 in Berkeley on March 19.
In the other quarterfinals, No. 4 Ohio State will meet Oklahoma State, and No. 6 Vanderbilt, the defending champion, will play Virginia.
Stanford has won a record 17 NCAA women's team titles, most recently in 2013. Florida is second with six; Cal has never won the crown.
In today's men's round of 16 in Tulsa, No. 13 Cal will face No. 4 Texas Christian, and No. 29 Stanford will take on No. 2 UCLA, led by junior Mackenzie McDonald of Piedmont in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Also, top-ranked and defending champion Virginia, featuring sophomore Collin Altamirano of Sacramento, Calif., will meet No. 16 Oklahoma State.
